Hypermetropia – Long sighted

If you struggle to focus on close-up objects (reading your ‘phone, for example, or books), but objects further away such as billboards, traffic signs and distant buildings are clear and easy to see, it is possible that you are long-sighted, or hypermetropic.
Dr Medownick pioneered the use of laser vision correction for long-sightedness in Australia. Prior to Dr Medownick, laser was only a solution for short-sightedness.
Understanding HYPERMETROPIA
Causes
Hypermetropia is usually inherited, and it occurs when the distance between the front and back of the eye is shorter than normal, causing light that enters the eye to travel too far so objects up close appear blurry.
Many young children have some degree of hypermetropia, but most grow out of it. However, if long-sightedness continues into adulthood, laser eye surgery may be an excellent way to correct the condition and enable you to see 20/20 without glasses.
Testing
When you come to Medownick Laser Clinic for your free assessment, we perform a thorough series of tests designed to understand not only your accurate prescription, but also the general health and suitability of your eyes for laser.
We use advanced equipment and technologies that are designed to be utilised prior to surgery, so you gain extremely accurate results. Based on these results, we are able to advise the very best course of action to have you seeing naturally.
Treatment
For suitable long-sighted patients, we will use either a femto-LASIK or Trans-PRK (Touchless Robotic) procedure to sculpt the edges of the cornea to increase the steepness of the peak, or central apex, in the middle.
This reduces the degree of long-sightedness and brings patients as close as possible to 20/20 vision (or even better). Both procedures are fast, painless, and are walk-in-walk-out procedures that help you get back to normal as quickly as possible.
Life after laser

Thanks to Dr Medownick’s pioneering work in using laser to treat long-sightedness, eligible patients are now able to experience true freedom from glasses and contact lenses.
They can look at their ‘phones the moment they wake; read the back of the shampoo bottle in the shower; and apply eye makeup without resting glasses on their noses.
They can work on their computers without squinting; and they can take notes, draw, paint, sew, read recipes, and enjoy any number of other up-close and detailed activities, without headaches or eye-strain.
