Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)

A reversible alternative to laser

Some patients who are unsuitable for laser eye surgery (such as those with thin corneas), and others who do not wish to receive laser eye surgery but still want the benefits of freedom from glasses and contact lenses, may be suitable candidates for collamer lens implants, known as ICLs.

Freedom from glasses, without taking anything from the eye

An Implantable Collamer Lens, or ICL, is a removable alternative to laser eye surgery, which can be used to correct short-sightedness (myopia).

Unlike laser eye surgery, the ICL procedure does not remove any corneal tissue. Instead, it is an additive that works in harmony with your natural eye. This means it may be a better option for patients who have very thin corneas or very high degrees of myopia, and also gives peace of mind to patients who want the option to change their minds later down the track.

Benefits

If you are looking for a reversible, non-laser alternative that gives you freedom from wearing glasses or contact lenses, an Implantable Collamer Lens may be the best option for your eyes and your lifestyle.

An additive procedure

The ICL procedure does not remove corneal tissue, but is instead an additive procedure. Once implanted, the lens gently unfolds in your eye, rests behind your iris, and is biocompatible with your body chemistry.

Suits thin corneas

Patients who are otherwise unable to get rid of their glasses via laser because they have high myopia or thin corneas are often very happy to learn they may be suitable for ICLs correct their vision.

Treats high prescriptions

ICLs may be used to treat suitable patients with very high myopia, treating up to -20 dioptres. This is a much higher prescription than can be treated by laser. ICLs may also treat some hypermetropia and astigmatism cases.

Biocompatible materials

Our premium “EVO+” ICLs are made from collamer, a unique material that contains collagen, which naturally occurs in the body. The lens is soft, flexible, and purpose-created to work in harmony with your natural eye.

UV protection

When inserting the ICL into the eye, our surgeons are able to create a built-in barrier of UV protection for you. This is because the collamer material that makes up the ICLs has unique properties that provide UV protection.

Fast recovery

The ICL insertion is a minimally-invasive, walk-in-walk-out procedure. Most patients are able to resume daily activities in just a few short days, and can begin to enjoy their daily activities with their new and improved vision.
