What it does
Gentle pulses of light create a thin layer of tissue, called a lenticule, in the cornea. Through a micro-incision, the surgeon removes the lenticule, and this reshapes the eye to enable patients to see with 20/20 vision.
Who is eligible
Suitable patients with myopia (short-sighted) and astigmatism (blurred vision). When you come to Medownick for your free assessment, we will thoroughly test your eyes to find out if you are suitable for SmartSight.
Actual laser time
The procedure usually takes between 20 minutes to half an hour to treat both eyes, although the actual time under the laser is a matter of seconds. You’ll be able to walk out and head home as soon as it’s over.
Time spent in recovery
Recovery from SmartSight surgery is very fast. The majority of our patients report an immediate improvement to their vision before they even leave the clinic, and experience 20/20 vision by the next day. However, it is important to remember that vision may continue to fluctuate during the weeks that follow as the eyes heal, and each person’s healing response is different so it is not possible to predict the precise nature or timing of your recovery.
